USB cables potentially frying laptops

As two people have recently found out, a bad USB cable can damage your device. Two men plugged in USB cables that they had bought from Amazon. After plugging in the cables, Benson Leung’s Chromebook Pixel wouldn’t boot and Dieter Bohn’s MacBook Air’s USB ports are no longer working. Both men were using USB Type-A-to-USB Type-C cables. The cables initially looked like the culprits, but after interviewing some USB experts, we aren't so sure.
