Many phone calls and email scams look very real. This was proven true, when an employee of Snapchat revealed pay information to someone who pretended to be the CEO Evan Spiegel. This was obviously legitimate enough for this unidentified worker. Since these types of message look incredibly real, they evade spam and other security filters. Snapchat promises that no user data was compromised and all of the people affected will be taken care of. This incident was reported to the FBI for further investigation. Snapchat refuses to give more information while the incident is being looked into.
This was a very interesting story to choose. I chose it because I have a snapchat and I wanted to know if my personal information was being sent to other people. One thing that makes this interesting is, the fact that people way up in high secured companies still fall for internet scams. It kind of puts doubt into the minds of the users that even the very important and secured networks are being hacked and and scammed. I thought this was a very interesting story.
