New Superman Crystal

Superman’s gadgets can finally be a reality! Not really, but researchers from the U.K. have developed a way to store digital data inside tiny structures inside a glass disk. This should ring a bell to Superman fans, but people who haven’t watched the Superman movies, Superman actually uses a memory crystal to generate holograms of people from his home planet.

Whats even better? The fact that this tiny piece of glass can store up to 360 terabytes of data (the equivalent of 22,500 basic iPhones) and be so stable and safe that it can survive billions of years. So do people just use it to store data like a hard drive? Not quite, researchers thought that it would be a better use of this futuristic glass to store history of mankind, so we don’t have to guess that people from the 21st century eat bread between two sausages.

This shows the magic inside this memory crystal :“The wizardry involved is invisible to the human eye. The scientists use a sophisticated laser to encode the information into minuscule formations, known as nanostructures, inside fused quartz. The structure alters the way light travels through the glass, allowing data to be read by special optic devices.” That’s right, no more putting cords into our computer!

I think this is an important breakthrough for our future because we don’t have to guess our past anymore and always have a digital backup for the most important things humans have discovered or made, from the Holy Bible to the Declaration of Independance.
