Are Toys Really That Safe?

Over the years, there have been toys that people have hacked into, including Hello Barbie and a teddy bear. Both of these toys have the ability to “talk” to kids. But it also gives hackers a chance to get their addresses, leak data, and break into customer accounts. And hackers didn’t just do this. They also broadcasted images and videos, and it affected 6.4 million kids in the world.
For example, Hello Barbie, a talking Barbie, can pinpoint your address. In December, security researcher Matt Jakubowski found a flaw that allowed hackers to find your house. But Hello Barbie is not the only toy that can be hacked. Fisher-Price’s Smart Toy Teddy Bear also be hacked. The plush teddy bear was found to leak parents and kids data.
I chose this story because I think it’s scary and cool how people can hack into your information using toys.

  1. This is creepy and and scary! Remember what I was telling you about how when I was little I thought the eyes on my stuffed animals were video cameras? I guess that's true for some people.
