Over the weekend, a team of researchers from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reported repeated noise in the Mariana Trench, the deepest part of the oceans in the world! The two research teams originally planted a microphone in the ocean, 7 miles deep in July 2015, but could not receive the audio they recorded until November, because of weather and shipping schedules. The teams reported that they were hearing the sounds of earthquakes, Baleen whales, and a category 4 typhoon that also passed by.. Slightly creepy, but the microphone also picked up strange man made sounds like hums of ships! The whole purpose of these microphones is to see what happens with animals if you try communicating with man made sounds. The teams also plan on planting another microphone in 2017.
I think this a very interesting story and I can’t wait to hear more on it. I find it interesting because I’m quite the animal person and I feel it is so cool to be able to listen and communicate with animals!
